Building a JapanSoc theme for Hotaru CMS

Rate this Entry
I decided the best way to focus on the most essential needs for Hotaru is to start copying my JapanSoc theme across. I'll post screenshots when I've got a bit more done, but right now I've managed to copy the headers along with the fonts, colors, and other site-wide CSS thingies.

Earlier on in Hotaru's development, I made it so templates, CSS and JavaScript files would always be pulled from the user's theme folder before the plugin folders. Until now, I hadn't really tested it, but I'm delighted to say that it works fantastically - and that's an understatement! While converting the JapanSoc theme to Hotaru, I've simply copied templates and CSS files from some of the plugins into my theme folder and edited them there, thus leaving the plugins untouched, but the files customized as part of my theme.

I also found a small glitch in the Search plugin (now updated to 0.4) which I wouldn't have noticed if I wasn't porting the JapanSoc theme to Hotaru.

If you've got nothing better to do with your time, why not make a start on porting your own SWCMS template to Hotaru? Let me know how you get on and what I can do to make the conversion easier.
